Book it in two halves and save

04 When should you actually book?

Don’t panic at today’s prices.

If you look the moment the invite lands, the fares will seem high — that’s normal. Airlines haven’t set real prices yet this far out. The good deals for Europe appear about 3 to 5 months before the trip. Here’s the rhythm:

One move that helps: open the search, then turn on Track prices in Google Flights. It emails you when the fare drops, so you never have to keep checking — or guess.

Concierge notes on connections

Sweet spot
Aim for a layover of 1h30 to 3h. Long enough to walk between gates and clear passport control, short enough that you’re not living at the airport.
If you split
Booking the two halves separately means the airlines won’t hold the Palma flight if your first one runs late. So leave a comfortable buffer — ideally land in the morning, hop to Palma later that day — and travel carry-on if you can.
London
Don’t change London airports (Heathrow to Gatwick is a long transfer). Use the same one both ways, or land somewhere with a single airport like Madrid or Frankfurt.
Long wait?
If the only good hop has a 5h+ gap, lean in — that’s lunch in the city, not a sentence. Or add a night or two with the stepper above.
Keep it simple

Our Travel Recommendations

Flights

Fly into Palma Airport (PMI) for travel to Mallorca.

For those coming from the US, most itineraries will include a connection through a major European airport such as Madrid, Barcelona, London, Paris, Amsterdam or Frankfurt before continuing on to Mallorca.

When we fly, we look for the best flights to any major European airport and then finding short regional flights to wherever you want to go, like Palma, is much cheaper.

Planning your trip

We recommend arriving to Mallorca at least 1 day before the festivities begin to allow time to settle in after travel and enjoy the island. Here are some ideas:

  • Idea No.1

    • Stay 1 or 2 nights in Palma to explore Mallorca’s biggest city then head to the wedding hotel on Friday for check-in & festivities.

  • Idea No.2

    • Explore other regions of the island before the weekend begins! (Also a must-do idea for after the weekend, depending on your plans!)

    • Our favorite areas are Deia and Port de Soller because of their location on the island for amazing sunsets and proximity to jaw dropping beaches! (Anything on the North West side of the island will be beautiful because of this reasoning, but these are our favorite towns!) We also loved Port de Andratx (just won’t get direct sunsets here, see map below)

  • Idea No.3

    • Fly in on Thursday & book Thursday as an additional night at the wedding hotel. Then on Friday, you’re already there. If you choose this option, please email us so we can coordinate our group rate for you.

Rental Car

We highly recommend a rental car. Not only is Mallorca such a big island with so many beautiful places to explore, but we found that 1 day of renting a car is equivalent to the fare of 1 taxi ride, so it makes a lot of sense to rent.

**For the best experience, book through a company you know (Hertz, Alamo, etc.) We found that the small companies we’ve never heard of required an international driver’s license, while Alamo didn’t mind. We rent cars every time we travel and have never needed an international driver’s license (confirm with your rental company) but if you are interested, it’s only $20 and possible via AAA.com
